Nigerian crochet artist Elizabeth Jesulade has gone viral online after she shared a video of a sweater she made entirely by hand, featuring a fully working, scannable QR code stitched into the fabric.
Jesulade, who is a final year student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, posted the video on X on September 12. In her caption, directed at the YouVersion Bible app, she said the platform did not ask her to make anything, but she crocheted it anyway.
In the clip, Jesulade is seen holding up the finished piece, a white sweater with a black and white crocheted QR code covering most of the front, while a phone mounted on a tripod records the process. Several people who reacted to the post said they were able to scan the code directly from her video and were redirected to YouVersion’s page, confirming that the code worked exactly as a printed one would.
The post has since gone properly viral, currently sitting at over 5.3 million views, more than 54,000 likes, 16,000 retweets and 2,800 comments, as people continue to react to how accurate the code turned out to be.
This is not the first time Jesulade’s crochet work has drawn attention online. She had earlier gone viral for crocheting a Real Madrid football jersey to mark her final year celebrations at FUNAAB, a piece that was also widely shared at the time.
As at the time of this report, YouVersion is yet to publicly respond to the crocheted tribute, though the post continues to gain traction across social media platforms.
