HER MONEY: Let’s Talk About Women and Money

Women are always talking about money. And even  when we are not talking about money, we are often thinking about it.

How much is left in the account? Should I order the shawarma? Can I afford the shawarma? Should I buy the dress or save it?

We talk about salaries. Rent. Transport. Black tax. School fees. A friend’s wedding. That ₦15,000 birthday gift you somehow agreed to buy. Splitting bills. Sending money home. Saving for a trip. Trying to invest. Trying to understand investments.

We also talk about money in slightly more chaotic ways.

“Girl, how much do you earn?”

    “Who paid for the date?”

“Would you marry a man who earns less than you?”

“Should I tell my boyfriend my salary?”

“Is ₦500,000 a month enough to live alone?”

“Why does everyone on Instagram have a new car?”

“Can I buy this bag or am I being financially irresponsible?”

    And the classic:

“I have money. I just don’t have money money.”

These are the conversations we have with HER MONEY

    /

We talk about the fun, awkward, practical and occasionally ridiculous parts of being a woman with money. Not just the very serious conversations about saving, investing and building wealth, although yes, we will talk about those too.

Because money is rarely just money.

It is freedom, it is security and sometimes, frankly, it is just wanting nice things.

Our relationship with money is not always neat. It is shaped by how we grew up, what we earn, what we have seen, what we have been taught and, sometimes, what we are trying very hard not to repeat.

For some women, money means independence. For others, it means taking care of family. For someone else, it might mean travelling, starting a business, buying a house, leaving a bad job or finally ordering the expensive thing on the menu without checking the price first.

Sometimes it means all of these things at once.

HER MONEY is a weekly conversation about all of it.

    The money we earn.
    The money we spend.
    The money we save.
    The money we give away.
The money we wish we had.
And the money we are still figuring out what to do with.

Because money is personal, but the conversations around it don’t have to be boring.

    This is HER MONEY.

    Let’s talk.
