Nigeria’s Ifeoma Uzogheli took the stage in Bangkok earlier today, September 25, as Miss Grand International 2026 held its Grand Talent audition, one of the pre coronation rounds that feeds into how delegates are judged ahead of the final crowning on October 10.
The competition is underway, though not in the country it spent almost a year preparing to hold it in. Miss Grand International 2026 was originally set to take place across Jaipur, Agra and New Delhi, with the final rounds billed for the Indira Gandhi Arena in the Indian capital, but on September 3, 2026, the organisation pulled out of India entirely and moved the remaining events to Bangkok, its home base and the same city that hosted the 2025 edition.
In a statement issued through its Instagram page, Miss Grand International said the decision followed the host country’s failure to meet the five star hospitality and production standards its agreement required, standards the organisation said were meant to protect the contestants’ safety and comfort throughout the competition. The organisation added that discussions and efforts had been made to resolve the issues before the switch was made. This is not the first time Miss Grand International has pulled a host country mid cycle, since the 2024 edition saw a similar last minute move away from Cambodia and back to Thailand over comparable disputes.
Despite the upheaval, the organisation has kept the original dates intact, and the pageant has been running in Thailand since delegates arrived on September 18. The schedule so far has included a Top 10 special dinner with Miss Grand International president Nawat Itsaragrisil on September 19, a three day tour of Bangkok from September 20 to 22, a welcome ceremony and press conference on September 24, and today’s Grand Talent audition on September 25. Delegates are also touring Nakhon Pathom and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya from September 26 to 27 before the swimsuit competition on September 29.
The competition proper, the part that determines who takes the crown, still has a way to go. The closed door interview is scheduled for October 4, the national costume and preliminary competitions for October 7, and the grand coronation night, where reigning queen Emma Tiglao of the Philippines will crown her successor, is set for October 10 at the MGI Hall in Bangkok.

Nigeria’s representative this year is Ifeoma Uzogheli, who was named Miss Grand Nigeria 2026 in early August after being crowned under Corporate Hostess and Modeling Service, the organisation that currently holds the Nigerian franchise under national director Jasper Salami. She joins delegates from more than fifty countries and territories competing for the title, with the organisation confirming the debut of the Republic of the Congo this year alongside the return of countries including Ukraine, Norway and Uruguay after past absences.
Nigeria’s best outings at Miss Grand International have landed in the top twenty, a placement its delegates reached in 2021, 2022 and 2023, and pageant watchers back home will be hoping Ifeoma Uzogheli can push past that mark once the competition rounds get underway in the coming weeks.
