The organisers of The Headies have postponed the 18th edition of the awards from October 23, 2026 to April 10 and 11, 2027. The ceremony, which is set to hold in Toronto, Canada, will now run over two days. The announcement was made on Saturday, October 10, through the awards’ official Instagram page.
In their statement, the organisers said the new schedule creates more opportunities for engagement within the music and creative industries, and that the programme is being expanded across both Nigeria and Canada ahead of the Toronto finale. They added that the Road to the Headies initiative will continue during the period originally set aside for the ceremony, with activities expected to include workshops, seminars and industry engagements.
The organisers also apologised to guests who had already made travel plans and other arrangements, saying further programme updates and guest information will be shared through their official channels. Beyond the plan to expand activities, no other reason for the postponement was given in the statement.
Reaction online has been largely critical. Some fans said the change came too close to the original date, and others who had bought tickets asked about refunds. The statement did not address ticket refunds, so it is not yet clear what ticket holders should expect.
The 18th Headies returns to a familiar question for fans of the awards: when the ceremony will finally take place. For now, the date to note is April 10 and 11, 2027, with the Road to the Headies activities running in the meantime.
