Tomorrow, Saturday, September 26, 2026, the Nollywood crime thriller Black Market will attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the largest audience at a single location film screening, with organisers hoping to gather 50,000 people at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos to watch the film at the same time.
The current record stands at 43,624 people, set in 2015 when the Philippine film Felix Manalo screened at the Philippine Arena. If Black Market pulls off its target, it would take the record to Nigeria and mark one of the largest film screenings ever attempted anywhere in the world.
Black Market is produced by Nora Awolowo through Rixel Studios, in collaboration with FilmOne Studios and Signet Ring Studios, with support from the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and several corporate sponsors. It is directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Abdul Tijani-Ahmed, and stars Lateef Adedimeji, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Scarlet Gomez, Omowunmi Dada and Uzor Arukwe. The film follows five market women who build a tightly run cross-border smuggling network to survive fuel scarcity and economic pressure, until a rival kidnaps the daughter of one of the women and throws their operation into turmoil.

This is the second major production from the Rixel Studios team, who previously had a box office hit in 2025 with Red Circle. Rather than a conventional indoor premiere, the team is opening the event to the public, with standard and premium tickets available for anyone who wants to be part of the record attempt.
Beyond the film itself, organisers are positioning the event as a statement for Nollywood and for Lagos, arguing that a successful, safely managed crowd of that size would boost confidence in Nigerian cinema and encourage more investment in the industry.
